Auburn remains a top-20 team in ESPN’s FPI after week zero’s action

ESPN’s Football Power Index still predicts Auburn to find success in 2024.

ESPN has updated its football power index, or FPI, rankings following a surprising weekend of week zero college football action.

The good news for Auburn? The Tigers remain at No. 19 in this week’s rankings. The unfortunate news? Auburn did not benefit from Florida State’s stunning loss to Georgia Tech in Ireland to kick off the college football season.

The Seminoles’ loss to Georgia Tech bumps them down five spots to No. 16. Because of this… Ole Miss, Clemson, Texas A&M, LSU, and Michigan were allowed to advance one spot in the FPI. Georgia Tech jumped 17 spots to No. 37 after pulling off the overseas upset.

In its inital release in June, the FPI projected Auburn to win seven games with an 83.4% chance to win at least six games in 2024. The Tigers’ College Football Playoff chances were not high at 13.5%, but finding success while playing the nation’s No. 5 toughest schedule could boost Auburn’s odds.

The SEC continues to dominate the top 10 of the FPI. Georgia, Texas, and Alabama make up the top five while Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Missouri rank No. 8-10 respectively.
