March is closer than many think, and projections for the March Madness tournament are already rolling in.
Joe Lunardi of ESPN’s current bracketology prediction has Auburn as the No. 6 seed in the west region of the bracket, projected to face either Utah State or Rutgers in the first round of the tournament. Auburn is one of two SEC teams in the west region, the other being the projected-No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats.
Should this projection hold weight, the Tigers would see a drop from where they were in last year’s tournament. Auburn was the No. 2 seed in the midwest region last year, so the current projection has the Tigers falling four spots for the 2023 iteration of the tournament. This should come as no surprise, though, as Auburn dropped two games during non-conference play to Memphis and USC that put the team down in the rankings in the AP Poll and USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
The Tigers will have plenty of opportunities to go for a higher seed as conference play continues next Wednesday against the Georgia Bulldogs.
