Since arriving to the Plains from Northwestern following the 2020 season from the transfer portal, [autotag]Eku Leota[/autotag] has been a valuable asset to the Auburn defense.
Leota was an asset to the defense last season by making 23 stops. The total number of stops may not jump off the page, but his ability to live in the opposition’s backfield will. Out of those 23 tackles, 10 of those were for a loss. Seven of those tackles for loss were credited as a sack.
He is making strides to have an even better season this year, as he has made seven stops through three games, two tackles being for loss. Heading into week four, Leota has found a place in On3’s transfer portal power rankings in the EDGE rusher column. This week, he holds the No. 5 spot on the list.
1. Jared Verse, Florida State | Albany (2021) |
2. Jacoby Windmon, Michigan State | UNLV (2021) |
3. Brenton Cox, Florida | Georgia (2018) |
4. Hunter Echols, Arizona | USC (2021) |
5. Eku Leota, Auburn | Northwestern (2020) |
Through three weeks, Leota has Auburn’s sixth-highest amount of stops on the season. He had his best game of the season last week at home against Penn State, making five tackles.
