Despite conference play remaining in the shadows, ESPN has high expectations for the Auburn Tigers heading into March Madness.
In ESPN’s latest bracketology update, Joe Lunardi projects Auburn to enter the NCAA Tournament as a No. 5 seed in the South Region. According to this projection, Auburn will begin the NCAA Tournament in Spokane, Washington, and will face No. 12 seed Grand Canyon in the round of 64. Should Auburn avoid the popular No. 5 vs. No. 12 seed upset, a possible matchup with No. 4 seed Duke could be awaiting them in the round of 32.
Nine SEC teams are projected to make the NCAA Tournament according to the latest forecast. Tennessee is expected to the the league’s highest-seeded team with a No. 2 seed projection in the South Region. Kentucky is projected to be a No. 4 seed while Texas A&M and Alabama could be No. 6 seeds according to Lunardi. Ole Miss, the surprise team in the SEC, is a No. 7 seed in this week’s update.
The Tigers will have a chance to boost its stock on Saturday when they host Chattanooga for the final nonconference game of the calendar year. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.
