Auburn not favored in Kentucky matchup

Can Auburn beat Kentucky on the Wildcats’ home court?

If Auburn is to win on Saturday against the Kentucky Wildcats, it will have to overcome the odds.

ESPN’s BPI for Saturday’s matchup between the two SEC teams favors Kentucky considerably, giving the Wildcats a 67.4% chance to win the game over the Auburn Tigers. Saturday will be the first time the two teams have met all year.

Given recent results, the prediction is understandable. Auburn has lost four of its last six games, while Kentucky has won four of its last six — the last three wins coming in a row. The Tigers will also be faced with the tough task of playing Kentucky on the Wildcats’ home court, so that should only further stack the deck against Bruce Pearl’s squad. Despite this, though, the two teams have quite a few similarities, both boasting a 19-9 overall record and the Wildcats winning just one more game in-conference than the Tigers.

Auburn’s all-time record against the Wildcats is another statistic going Kentucky’s way. The Tigers are just 22-92 against the typically-dominant Wildcats across the team’s tenure, though a struggling Kentucky team could mean another game could be added to the win column on Saturday.
