According to Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live, the Tigers coaching staff hosted Memphis transfer Morris Joseph for a visit this past weekend. He isn’t the only transfer that was on the Plains this past weekend. Iowa State transfer Craig McDonald was also in town for a visit, and he subsequently committed to the Tigers on Saturday afternoon. It has been evident that the coaching staff is addressing team needs in the offseason. So far, the staff has done a good job of filling the weaker spots on the roster.
Joseph is one of the more interesting transfers that the Tigers have reached out to. Joseph committed to Georgia Tech back in March, and that commitment came just several weeks after he entered his name into the transfer portal. Since he didn’t officially sign with the program, he has the choice on whether or not to visit other programs. The two schools that he has since visited are Arkansas and Auburn. He has since stated via his Twitter that “his decision is a business decision.” That may lead many to believe that he will be playing somewhere other than Georgia Tech.
Joseph was originally at Iowa Western Community College prior to him transferring to Memphis. At Memphis, he spent three seasons on the team’s defensive line. He recorded 117 total tackles and 10.5 sacks. In 2021, he was listed as a Fourth-Team All-AAC selection by Phil Steele. Wherever he decides to go, his impact will be immediate. At 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds, he will have the chance to compete for one of the spots along the interior of the defensive line.
If the Tigers don’t land Joseph, their two interior defensive line starters will likely be Jayson Jones and Marcus Harris. However, if Joseph chooses Auburn, that is susceptible to change. He has experience and provides the Tigers with an inside presence that the team has lacked over the past few years. We will see what Joseph decides to do, but Auburn fans certainly have their fingers crossed on this one.
