Auburn has ‘earned their way’ into four-star DL Kamarion Franklin’s top five

They are battling Ole Miss, Miami, Tennessee and Florida State for him.

Defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin is the No. 1 player from Mississippi and on Friday he announced his top five schools on Twitter and the Tigers made the cut.

The Lake Cormorant native also included Ole Miss, Tennessee, Miami and Florida State. The 6-foot-5, 254-pounder spoke with Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports about his finalist.

One thing that is helping Auburn is the staff’s ties to Mississippi. Defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett, who is his primary recruiter, is from Mississippi and Hugh Freeze knows the state well from his time at Ole Miss.

“I have a great relationship with Coach (Jeremy) Garrett,” Franklin said. “He’s from Mississippi like me, born and raised. Coach (Hugh) Freeze he’s got Mississippi ties from Mississippi. They came in late in my recruitment, new staff and everything. They came in and earned their way to the top five.”

Franklin is the No. 39 overall recruit and No. 7 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking.

According to Wiltfong, Franklin will be returning to the Plains for an unofficial visit next weekend as the Tigers look to land the coveted defensive lineman.

He is coming off an insanely productive year for Lake Cormorant High School where he set a new sack record with 17.0. He added 73 tackles, 22.0 tackles for loss and blocked three kicks.
