Fresh off of their best season-opening performance in program history, Auburn Gymnastics returns to action Friday night.
The Tigers competed against three of College Gymnastics’ top-tier programs in Oklahoma, Michigan, and UCLA last Saturday night in Las Vegas as part of the Super 16 event, and performed exceptionally well by finishing third in the competition with a score of 197.350.
Olympic gold medalist [autotag]Suni Lee[/autotag] won the all-around title with a 39.750, which was earned in part to her 10.000 score on beam. Her performance led her to earning SEC Gymnast of the Week for the fourth time in her short career on the Plains.
This Friday, the No. 5 Tigers travel to Gainesville for the SEC opener against No. 2 Florida. Last season, the Tigers and Gators tied with identical 198.575 scores in Neville Arena. Head coach [autotag]Jeff Graba[/autotag] says that how well his team performs Friday will be a great indicator of how well the rest of the season will shake out.
“The better we do on Friday, the better the rest of the season looks,” Graba said ahead of Auburn’s meet at Florida. “I was really happy with what happened in Las Vegas because that would have been a counting score for us last year. To start like that, it’s a big deal. And to build off of it this weekend on the road will only benefit us later in the season.”
