Auburn football’s game vs. Oklahoma among most-watched games of the weekend

Over 5 million people tuned in to watch the Tigers battle the Sooners. Where does the game ranked among the most-watched of the weekend?

Week five featured an interesting slate of games including Auburn’s classic contest with the visiting Oklahoma Sooners.

For the first time in history, Oklahoma visited Jordan-Hare Stadium to battle Auburn as new members of the SEC on Sept. 28 and left as victors despite the battle being anything but easy. Trailing 21-10 early in the 4th quarter, the Sooners rattled off two touchdowns and a field goal within the final 8:32 to escape with a 27-21 victory. Oklahoma linebacker Kip Lewis picked off Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne and returned it 63 yards to give the Sooners the go-ahead score with less than five minutes to go in the contest.

The game was exciting, and many people took it in. According to final viewing numbers from ESPN, Auburn’s game vs. Oklahoma was the second-most watched game on the family of networks on Sept. 28 with 5.04 million average viewers, peaking at 6.9 million viewers.

Auburn vs. Oklahoma trailed only Alabama‘s win over Georgia for the top spot. The classic in Tuscaloosa garnered 12.0 million viewers, becoming the most-watched primetime game on any network since 2017. Auburn’s tilt vs. Oklahoma beat out games such as UCF-Colorado, Kentucky-Ole Miss, and Minnesota-Michigan.

The Tigers will get another crack at beating their week five numbers by taking on No. 5 Georgia on the road this Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ABC at 2:30 p.m. CT.
