Auburn football may have lost a heartbreaker to the Oklahoma Sooners last Saturday, but their defeat caused minimal damage in this week’s re-rank.
Paul Myerberg released his weekly “re-rank” following week five’s college football action and keeps Auburn locked at No. 81, the same place the Tigers checked into following week four’s slate of games. Auburn fell 14 spots to No. 81 after losing their SEC home opener to Arkansas on Sept. 21 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
A loss to Oklahoma did zero damage to Auburn’s place within the USA TODAY Sports re-rank. However, a win over the Tigers also meant nothing to the Sooners. Oklahoma remains at No. 19 this week after earning their road win at Auburn. In week four’s rankings, the Sooners dropped three spots from No. 16 after losing to Tennessee at home.
This week, Auburn turns its attention to Georgia. The Bulldogs, last week’s top team, fell to No. 4 after losing a heartbreaker of their own to Alabama in Tuscaloosa last Saturday night. Alabama is this week’s No. 1 team in Myerberg’s rankings after grabbing the win over Georgia while Texas and Ohio State also benefitted from the Crimson Tide’s victory by jumping Georgia.
The Tigers and Bulldogs square off at Sanford Stadium on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on ABC.
