Auburn’s long nightmare has finally ended…well, to be fair it wasn’t that long. Head coach Bryan Harsin was fired on Monday after a tumultuous season-and-a-half at Auburn, ending a tenure that felt doomed from the very start. Just moments after news broke that Auburn was hiring away Mississippi State’s John Cohen to fill its open athletic director position, the school made it official that it would also be making a change at the top of the football program.
Harsin’s lack of experience in the SEC and his serious, sometimes-prickly demeanor made him an odd fit for one of college football’s most chaotic and fun-loving programs and while firing a coach is generally not an event any fanbase considers a moment to celebrate, Auburn fans made no attempt to hide their excitement about the move.
