As many conferences enter their final week of regular season play, rankings are starting to become more and more important. Auburn basketball has two games left to improve its stock after falling in the Associated Press Poll.
The Tigers hit the road for a Wednesday night, top-15 game against the Tennessee Volunteers in which they lost by eight in a tightly contested matchup. They managed to turn it around though on Saturday, getting revenge on Mississippi State at home by 15 points. As a result, Auburn dropped to No. 13 in the latest rankings.
Tennessee remains at the No. 4 spot despite its two huge wins over both the Tigers and Alabama, but it has cemented its spot at first place in the SEC, being one full game ahead. The Crimson Tide, however, dropped two spots to No. 16 this week after the loss. Kentucky jumped over Alabama to No. 15 after its buzzer-beater win over Mississippi State and a 111-point showing against Arkansas. South Carolina is the only other SEC team left in the poll at No. 17 after Florida dropped out.
Auburn is still fighting amidst a tight race for a spot in the top four of the conference heading into the final two games of the regular season. It will need a little bit of help, but it needs to handle business this week against both Missouri and Georgia in order to have a better opportunity.
