Auburn football has entered the sweepstakes for one of the top players from North Carolina. The Tigers recently extended an offer to edge defender Rico Walker.
Walker, who plays on both sides of the ball, has more upside on the defensive side of the ball and projects to be an edge defender. Auburn has steadily produced NFL defensive linemen and is looking for the next crop of promising defenders.
He has the potential to add weight to his frame and become a more physical player but has great athleticism.
He has a great burst of speed at the snap and is able to get into the backfield but also does a good job setting the edge. When he does get to the offensive player he has great closing speed and is a sure tackler. Walker also has the athleticism to drop into passing lanes.
Like most high school defensive linemen, he needs to increase his upper body strength and his technique.
