Auburn basketball looking to become a better defensive team

Auburn basketball is off to a strong start after going 2-0 last week.

The Tigers have bought into the importance of solid defensive play but still have a long way to go according to Director of Auburn Basketball Operations Chad Prewett.

He talked about the team’s buy-in on the defensive side of the ball on the “Locked On Auburn” podcast this week.

“Well, that kind of starts at the top. Obviously, BP, Coach Pearl, talks about if you want to win championships, you have to defend and rebound. I think that’s a major part of it and so it’s something we put a ton of emphasis on. We don’t want to just guard you, we want to try to make plays on the defensive side of the ball. We want to look for opportunities to make steals and take charges and block shots, which has been a big thing we’ve done the first two games.

“You know, how can we impact the game on the defensive end? I think that’s what you’re seeing. And I honestly believe that we have a chance to be really good on the defensive end and we’re not there yet. We’re still missing assignments early in the year, but that’s the one thing I think if we can get locked in and continue to improve every day, we could be a really good defensive team.”

The Tigers travel to take on USF in Tampa on Friday.
