Auburn basketball jumps forward in latest ESPN Bracketology update

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi pairs Auburn with defending national champion UConn in the latest Bracketology update.

Auburn basketball experienced a roller coaster week on the hardwood.

The Tigers began the week by taking down Virginia Tech in convincing fashion, 74-57, at Neville Arena. Auburn then traveled to Boone, North Carolina on Sunday and experienced an upsetting loss to Appalachian State, 69-64.

How did the 1-1 week affect its place in NCAA Tournament projections?

According to the latest Bracketology from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, the Tigers are projected to be a No. 7 seed in this season’s NCAA Tournament, up from the No. 9 seed in last week’s projections.

In Lunardi’s forecast, he has Auburn competing in the East Region opening in Brooklyn, New York against No. 10 seed Cincinnati. Auburn’s round of 32 matchup would be the winner of No. 2 UConn and No. 15 Colgate.

Auburn has one game this week, that will be against Indiana on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta as part of Holiday Hoopsgiving. Ahead of Saturday’s game, Indiana is not considered to be an NCAA Tournament team according to Lunardi’s latest projections.
