The No. 15 Auburn Tigers have one more chance to fine-tune their craft before making the journey to Mexico to compete in the Cancun Challenge.
According to the latest ESPN Basketball Power Index projection, Auburn will have the perfect opportunity to do just that on Friday night. The Tigers welcome Texas Southern to Neville Arena on Friday and have been given a 96% chance to earn a victory according to the ESPN BPI.
Auburn enters the contest with a 3-0 record, while Texas Southern is 1-4. Texas Southern has played five quality opponents and has one solid win over Arizona State. Over the last week, Auburn has risen to No. 12 in the ESPN BPI rankings, while Texas Southern ranks No. 282.
The ESPN BPI favors Auburn in its’ remaining non-conference games, with the closest margin expected to come on Dec. 21 at Washington, where Auburn is given a 60% chance to win in Seattle.
According to ESPN, the Men’s College Basketball Power Index (BPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.
