Atlanta Hawks at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Atlanta Hawks at Philadelphia 76ers NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia 76ers (41-21) host the Atlanta Hawks (34-29) for the second of a back-to-back Friday at Wells Fargo Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Hawks-76ers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Hawks’ 44-point beatdown administered by the Sixers was their second consecutive loss and they have split the four games—both straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS)—Trae Young has been sidelined with injury.

Philly trounced Atlanta 127-83 in the first of the back-to-back Wednesday for its second straight win following a four-game losing skid from April 19-24. Over the past two weeks, the Sixers are 3-4 SU and 2-4-1 ATS.

This is the rubber match between these two teams has the home team won and handily covered each of the first two meetings.

Hawks at 76ers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 119, Hawks 104

Money line (ML)

PASS even though I don’t give the Hawks (+333) much of a chance in this game without Young because the 76ers (-450) is just too expensive for a SU win.

Against the spread (ATS)

It was fairly easy for the Sixers defense to shut down Atlanta’s offense without Young in the lineup Wednesday.

In the first Hawks-76ers meeting this season, Atlanta had Young available and Philly was missing Ben Simmons, the Hawks controlled the tempo.

When the opposite was true for the second Hawks-76ers meeting, it was Philly who controlled the tempo.

For instance, in Atlanta’s victory over Philly Jan. 11, the Hawks outscored the Sixers 21-2 in fast-break points, but in Philly’s win Wednesday it outscored Atlanta 30-9.

Furthermore, the Hawks’ starting backcourt—guards Lou Williams and Brandon Goodwin—scored a combined 15 points on 4-of-18 shooting (1-for-6 from behind the arc).

Also, Joel Embiid completely neutralized Hawks big Clint Capela, holding him to just 9 points on 30.8% shooting with just 8 rebounds.

The last box I’d need Philly to check before backing it in this spot is for the motivational angle, and the Sixers have that as they are chasing the Brooklyn Nets for the 1-seed in the Eastern Conference.

BET 76ERS -9 (-115) for a three-fourths unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Over 221.5 (-110) because my predicted score is only 1.5 points off of BetMGM‘s projected total and I don’t have much faith in Atlanta’s offense against Philly’s top-tier defense.
