The Falcons started the year 0-5 under Quinn and finally moved on following a 23-16 home loss against the rival Carolina Panthers in Week 5. They then routed the Minnesota Vikings 40-23 the next week but suffered yet another late-game collapse in a 23-22 home loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 7. They got their revenge against the Panthers in the form of a 25-17 road win on Thursday Night Football in Week 8.

Atlanta has fallen from preseason odds of +5000 to its current number of +25000. Only six teams have longer odds. The Panthers are the closest of the rival NFC South teams at +20000.

The offense has done its part for most of the season. QB Matt Ryan has completed 66.8% of his passes for a league-high 2,462 yards. He has 12 passing scores against four interceptions with another touchdown on the ground. WRs Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones have 657 and 584 receiving yards, respectively. RB Todd Gurley has 8 rushing scores with 531 yards on 140 carries.

Falcons division betting odds

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers -189
  • New Orleans Saints +135
  • Carolina Panthers +15000
  • Atlanta Falcons +25000

Atlanta and Carolina have split their head-to-head season series 1-1 with each team winning on the road. The Falcons will play the Bucs and Saints twice each in their final seven games of the regular season, mixing in road games against the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs, and a home date with the Las Vegas Raiders following their Week 10 bye.

The new-look Bucs (6-2) have won three straight games to sit atop the division. The Saints (5-2) have won four straight.

Falcons futures picks and predictions

YES, the long odds for both the Super Bowl and the NFC South title make the Falcons worthy of small wagers for both. The offense, led by Ryan, Jones and Ridley, is good enough to compete in a shootout with anyone. The defense has shown some flashes since the changeover from Quinn to Morris but remains the weakness.

The four games against the Bucs and Saints are the key here. If the Falcons can somehow sweep those and find a couple of wins outside of the division, the Falcons could get back to the postseason with an added shot of confidence.
