Atkinson spurns Hornets, returns to Warriors bench

The coaching search continues for Michael Jordan and the Hornets.

The coaching search continues for the Hornets.

After agreeing to become the next head coach in Charlotte, Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson has changed his mind.

Reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Atkinson has decided to remain with Golden State on Steve Kerr’s staff, forgoing the opportunity to become the head coach of the Hornets.

Wojnarowski noted that after further conversations with the Hornets, Atkinson felt both ‘professionally and personally’ that it was in his best interest to remain in Golden State.

With Mike Brown leaving to become the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, Atkinson is set to become the top assistant behind Kerr.

Prior to focusing on Atkinson, Mike D’Antoni and Terry Stotts were the other two finalists for the job.
