Around the SEC: Don’t count KJ Costello out as a legitimate QB prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft

Here’s a complete breakdown of what a team is getting in the former Stanford signal-caller.

Cons

Costello has enough mobility to evade pressure, but that’s about as much as he can do for you with his legs. He can find an open lane under pressure and escape, but he won’t extend the play or give defenders a run for their money to buy extra yardage.

If you look through his film and focus in on situations where he’s under pressure, you’ll see a mixed bag. He’s made a lot of good throws when he feels the heat, trusting his pass-catchers in 50-50 situations, but sometimes, it gets ugly — a defender gets in his face and he either goes down or makes a costly decision.

There have been several times we’ve seen Costello go for the explosive play when there’s a much better, safer option, which sometimes takes the offense two steps back when that deep strike attempt fails.
