Around the horn: Ducks offensive frenzy continues; Ayon turns in quality start

Starting pitcher Isaac Ayon turns in Oregon’s first quality start of the season with six innings and giving up one run.

With all of the runs that are being scored by the Oregon Ducks baseball team, it would be easy to overlook a great start from the pitching staff.

Isaac Ayon turned in the Ducks’ first quality start of the season and the bats kept rolling in a 13-1 rout of St. John’s. It’s Oregon’s fourth straight win as they have a winning record for the first time in 2022. It was also the third straight over the Red Storm as the Ducks will now go for the four-game series sweep tomorrow afternoon.

On the mound, Ayon went six innings, giving up just one run, and struck out a career-high seven batters for his first win of the year. At the plate, shortstop Josh Kasevich drove in four and Colby Shade drove in two with a single and double. Oregon had 14 hits on a rainy day at PK Park.

The Ducks and Red Storm go at it one more time Monday afternoon.
