Armando Bacot named a finalist for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award

UNC basketball senior center Armando Bacot has been named a finalist for an award for his 2022-23 season.

The 2022-23 college basketball season hasn’t gone as planned for the UNC basketball program as they are very likely going to miss the NCAA Tournament.

But one constant for them has been the play of Armando Bacot.

The senior center had another big year for the Tar Heels, averaging a double-double with 15.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. He was UNC’s most consistent player despite missing a few key games with an ankle injury.

For his play, Bacot is being recognized again.

On Friday, Bacot was one of five finalists for the 2023 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame. Bacot joined Creighton’s Ryan Kalkbrenner, Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe, Purdue’s Zach Edey and UConn’s Adama Sanogo.

The award is given out annually to the top center in Division I men’s college basketball. This is the ninth year the award will be given out.

With finalists announced, the winner will be presented during the NCAA Tournament along with other four members of the Men’s Starting Five for awards.
