Armando Bacot grabs ACC Player of the Week honors

UNC basketball center Armando Bacot wins the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors early.

Armando Bacot is off to a hot start in his final year with the UNC basketball program, helping the Tar Heels open 2-0.

In two games this season, Bacot averaged 23.5 points and 16.5 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field. That included a 22-point and 20-rebound performance on Sunday to beat Lehigh. Bacot recorded his 70th double-double of his career and also passed Marcus Paige on the all-time UNC scoring list in the process.

For his play, he earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors.  Bacot has now won the award seven times in his career, trailing only Tyler Hansbrough and Antawn Jamison for most in program history.

The award is announced weekly, and features a 15-member media panel voting for the player and rookie of the week. Pitt guard Carlton ‘Bub’ Carrington was voted the Rookie of the Week to complete the award for the week.

The Tar Heels return to action on Friday night hosting UC-Riverside in the Dean Dome before they go to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis over Thanksgiving.
