I guess you could call the University of Arkansas an “everything” school.
Arkansas fans young and old will hold the 2021-22 athletic season in a special place due to the success that every program seemed to enjoy over the year.
But, just how special was the 2021-22 year? It was so monumental, that only two other athletic programs in the entire country can claim the same title as Arkansas.
Arkansas joins LSU and Michigan as athletic programs that made the NCAA Tournament in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Gymnastics, and participated in a College Football bowl game.
The athletic season began with football climbing back into relevancy by finishing with a 9-4 record which ended with a win over Penn State in the Outback Bowl. Nine wins were the most for the program since 2011, when the Razorbacks finished 11-2 with an appearance in the Cotton Bowl.
The Razorbacks kept momentum going during the winter sports, as Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Gymnastics enjoyed trips to the postseason. Men’s basketball finished 28-9 with their second straight trip to the Elite 8. Women’s basketball ended the season with an 18-14 record and a first round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Finally, for Gymnastics, the Razorbacks posted high scores in the regional meet, and sent two athletes to compete for national titles.
Razorback softball enjoyed their most successful season in history by winning not only the SEC regular season title for the second season in a row, but by winning the SEC Tournament as well. Their season ended in the Super Regionals, dropping two of three to Texas. Baseball’s season continues in the Stillwater Regional of the NCAA Tournament beginning Friday against Grand Canyon.
Neither of these team’s success shows any signs of stopping, as every team mentioned seems to have a bright future ahead.
