There were absolutely no positives you could take away from Arkansas’ performance against Georgia on Saturday.
From beginning to end, the Bulldogs destroyed the Razorbacks in every facet of the game. Offense, defense, special teams, penalties, coaching, toughness, you name it. The Hogs got outclassed in every way possible. This leaves some fans wondering if Arkansas can even bounce back after a butt-kicking like that.
The short answer? Yes, they can and yes, they will.
There’s a huge difference between getting smoked by a superior team and getting exposed as a fraudulent team. Arkansas had the former happen to them against Georgia on Saturday. If those two teams played each other 10 times, the Bulldogs would win every game. UGA is the best team in the country and the only team that has a chance of stopping them this year is Alabama.
Arkansas is not a bad team. Anyone who has watched them at all this year knows that. The Associated Press showed that fact by only dropping the Hogs five spots from No. 8 to No. 13 in their latest poll. They didn’t get exposed as overrated on Saturday. If anything, it just affirmed that Georgia is THAT good compared to the rest of college football.
I’ll admit that I am the biggest optimist when it comes to Razorback athletics. I always try to talk myself into believing that the team is going to be more successful than what they end up being. But this isn’t some blind faith I am putting into the football program. I’ve seen proof that this team is good enough to compete in the SEC already this season.
The Hogs are 4-1. They looked great in their four wins and pretty lousy in their one loss. They play the Ole Miss Rebels his weekend in another Top-25 matchup that could really decide how the SEC West stacks up. I fully expect Arkansas to go into Oxford completely re-focused and re-energized. They won’t allow a performance like the one they had against Georgia define them as a team.
Coach Sam Pittman said it best during his Monday press conference, “We are doing the right things, we just have to do them better.”
