Arkansas beats Murray State, will look for sweep Sunday

Diamond Hogs hitters reached base 20 times and pitchers gave up just three knocks.

Saturday at Baum-Walker Stadium, the Arkansas baseball team did what a top-five team in the country should do.

They rolled a lesser opponent.

Arkansas beat Murray State, 11-1, to take the series and will look for a sweep Sunday. Diamond Hogs pitchers gave up just three hits and the team’s hitters reached base 20 times in the eight-inning game.

Ross Lovich had the best day at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. Jared Sprague-Lott, Ben McLaughlin and Will Edmunson joined him in the two-hit club while McLaughlin upped him by scoring three runs himself.

Most of the damage came in just two innings. Arkansas scored four runs in the fourth inning and tacked on five in the fifth, an inning in which the Diamond Hogs batted around.

It was more than enough for Brady Tygart, who struck out 10 Murray State hitters in his five innings of work. Will McIntire pitched two perfect innings of relief and Cooper Dossett was perfect in the final frame.

Arkansas will go for that sweep at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
