The third weekend of the regular season finds the Arkansas baseball settling into Baum-Walker Stadium.
The fifth-ranked Diamond Hogs are playing games No. 2, 3, and 4 of a 12-game homestand against Murray State on the weekend. Arkansas won’t hit the road again for three weeks when it travels to Auburn for the second weekend of SEC play.
Arkansas is coming off a 21-1 shellacking of Grambling on Tuesday, a game that saw the Razorbacks’ chilly bats warm to the tune of 30-plus baserunners. Murray State, though, isn’t Grambling.
The Racers were picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference in the preseason. The MVC isn’t quite as strong in baseball as it is in basketball, generally, but it’s also a league that could conceivably get two teams in the NCAA Tournament with some luck.
Murray State’s start to the year has validated expectations. MSU is 6-2 with two series wins. The team’s only losses came by one run against Southeast Missouri – a team Arkansas often schedules – and two against Louisiana-Monroe.
