Arkansas remained just on the outside of the AFCA USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after Week 9.
The Razorbacks were off for a bye week and return Saturday against Mississippi State. In the meantime, Arkansas checked in with the fourth most votes among teams outside the top 25, making the Hogs the de facto No. 29 team in the poll.
Arkansas was as high as 11th in the poll after Week 4 when the Razorbacks were 4-0 and coming off a victory over Texas A&M. Coach Sam Pittman’s team dropped three straight games after that and fell out. The Hogs beat FCS Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Week 8 and received their week of rest most recently.
The SEC had six teams represented in the poll after Week 8. No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Alabama, No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 14 Auburn, No. 15 Ole Miss and No. 17 Kentucky were all ranked. Arkansas and Mississippi State picked up votes.
Arkansas is 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the SEC with four games left. After Mississippi State, Arkansas travels to LSU and Alabama, then returns to Fayetteville for the season finale against Missouri the day after Thanksgiving.
