Apex Legends: Respawn has discussed putting all four maps on Ranked rotation in a season

One thing that is unlikely to come to Ranked, however, is a quads mode.

I love Apex Legends, but I am so sick of Kings Canyon. It’s a good map – the OG Apex battleground – and it’s changed for the better over the years, but after playing on it most days for the past month and a half, I wish it would go away. I miss Olympus, World’s Edge, and Storm Point.

Luckily, next season is all about World’s Edge and Storm Point, the latter of which has had a bit of a makeover, sporting a new point of interest as well as some IMC Armories that house PvE battles with Spectres for some smart loot (read: attachments you actually need).

But now there are four maps, wouldn’t it be better to have them all in Ranked rotation, to avoid map fatigue?

“That’s something that we’ve definitely thought about and discussed, and we’re definitely actively thinking about it,” associate design director Jeff Shaw says. “Right now, there’s really no plans or anything set in stone, but it is definitely something that’s in the back of our mind as something we could do.”

One thing that is unlikely to come to Ranked, however, is a quads mode. According to Respawn, the developer has tested it and it just doesn’t work well for competitive play. That means you’re still going to have to stalk your chat parties and jump in when someone grabs lunch, sorry.

“We’ve played with a bunch of different kinds of setups in the past,” game director Steven Ferreira explains. “We’ve obviously done things like solo queues and solo Limited Time Modes (LTM). We’ve even tried teams of much more than four in some cases. But I think there are a lot of pieces that fit into the dynamic of a three-team squad. So that isn’t something that we’re looking to change as a permanent mode or a permanent option within the BR.

“Having said that, LTM is an opportunity for us to play with that kind of thing, and that’s definitely the kind of space that we like to play with. You’ve seen that in Control, going into a much bigger team mode. And we’ve got some more things coming down the pipe where you’ll see different sized squads in the future, but we can’t share any details right now.”

Season 13 of Apex Legends – dubbed ‘Saviors’ – lands on May 10.
