Apex Legends Gaiden Event kicks off with dazzling anime trailer

Respawn’s battle royale sensation is hat-tipping One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Evangelion with several limited-time cosmetics.

Escaping the blistering summer heat is easier than ever, thanks to developer Repsawn’s latest update for Apex Legends. After all, who needs sunshine when there are anime-themed collectibles to be found? Don’t sincerely answer that, please.

On Tuesday, the Gaiden Event in Apex Legends finally began. With it comes more than 50 cosmetics, several of which are styled after popular anime franchises. Revenant, Mirage, Octane, and Wattson are all getting new legendary skins that reference Neon Genesis Evangelion, My Hero Academia, One Piece, and Naruto, respectively. Goodness, gracious! It’s almost tempting enough to dive in and completely overlook the recent troubles

Someone better tell Kaleb to get back into the robot before Loba has to — should her tactical ability function properly again, mind. Jokes aside, the animation quality is pretty decent. It almost makes you wish there were an actual Apex Legends anime.

The Apex Legends‘ Gaiden Event runs from July 19 through Aug. 2, 2022. There’ll be two different challenge tracks, the first of which goes from July 19 until July 26, 2022, with the second half running until the event itself concludes. Respawn broke down the finer details here. If you’re feeling adventurous, official VTuber avatars coincide with the event.
