It seems to be a bit of a theme this season for Penn State when it comes to the polls. The Nittany Lions have yet to do anything to warrant being moved up in the polls in the early part of the season, but there have been some notable changes around them within the top 10. And just as they did in the US LBM Coaches Poll and the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll, Penn State saw no movement in the updated AP Top 25 released on Sunday afternoon.
Penn State is ranked no. 7 in the updated AP Top 25 following all of the action from Week 2. The Nittany Lions have been ranked no. 7 in each of the previous AP polls this season (preseason and Week 1).
Texas was the team moving ahead of Penn Stater this week in the AP Top 25 following a big road win at Alabama on Saturday. Texas moved up seven spots in this week’s AP poll from No. 11 up to no. 4. The Longhorns also passed no. 5 USC, No. 6 Ohio State, no. 8 Washington, no. 9 Notre Dame, no. 10 Alabama, and no. 11 Tennessee on their way up this week’s poll. Alabama tumbled seven spots in this week’s AP poll following the loss to Texas.

Georgia remains the top-ranked team in the AP Top 25 with 55 first-place votes to their name. Michigan remained no. 2 in the poll with two first-place votes. Florida State, after making a big move up the ranking last week, moved up one more spot to occupy the space previously filled by Alabama at no. 3.
Iowa moved into the AP Top 25 this week after a win at Iowa State to improve to 2-0 this season. Iowa is the fourth Big Ten team in the poll this week, making up for Wisconsin dropping out of the poll after losing at Washington State in Week 2. Washington State moved into the top 25 at no. 23 with their win over the Badgers. Penn State will host Iowa in Week 4 in what could potentially be a top 25 matchup.
Other Big Ten teams receiving points in the AP poll included Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Maryland. Future Big Ten membership looks good though with USC, Washington, and no. 13 Oregon all in the top 15. UCLA also made an appearance in this week’s AP poll at no. 24.
