The Anthony Munoz story contains many different dimensions. Munoz talked about those facets of his life journey on a recent USC YouTube show.
Trojan Conquest Live, with co-hosts Tim Prangley and Rick Anaya, airs Sundays at 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific at The Voice of College Football. Munoz appeared on the June 4 edition of the show in a one-hour conversation about his football life. The conversation went in many different directions.
One surprising aspect of the conversation was the extent to which Munoz discussed his baseball experience as a shaper of his football skills. Munoz talked about baseball’s ability to give him — a big, hulking offensive lineman — the footwork and agility he needed to be great.
One baseball player was an inspiration to Munoz: Juan Marichal, the big righthander for the San Francisco Giants. Marichal’s physically imposing presence on the mound gave Munoz confidence. The pitcher gave Munoz the ability to develop his own comfort zone in terms of technique. Munoz realized that being big did not have to mean being slow or stuck. Marichal was an elite athlete, and Munoz drew strength from that example.
