Could the Washington Redskins make another big splash at safety in free agency this year?
The free-agent market sure isn’t hurting for big names at safety this offseason, especially with Anthony Harris of the Minnesota Vikings leading the way.
That’s just who perfectly fits the Redskins, according to ESPN’s Ben Linsey:
“Harris is one of the most valuable potential free agents in the league this offseason, and given the Vikings’ shaky cap situation, he could easily become available to teams willing to pay enough. Harris has been outstanding on the back end of the Vikings’ defense over the past two years, grading out as a top-three safety each year. It doesn’t look as if Montae Nicholson is going to be in the Redskins’ long-term plans between his poor play on the field (51.6 overall grade in 2019) and his off-the-field issues. The addition of Harris would be a big step toward replacing Nicholson and improving a secondary that needs some attention.”
Harris is undoubtedly one of the league’s best and would fit quite well next to Landon Collins.
But Collins is the problem, right? The Redskins already spent huge money on the position last offseason, throwing a six-year deal worth $84 million at Collins.
If the Redskins are comfortable throwing another massive contract at the same position, it’d be hard to complain about such a one-two punch. But the front office might instead decide to spend money at corner to even things out.
But if the Redskins did land Harris, let’s just say it would still be hard to complain.
