Anthony Edwards on Friday produced his 23rd game of the season with at least 20 points, but the effort was not enough as the Minnesota Timberwolves fell to the Boston Celtics in overtime.
Edwards registered 24 points, five rebounds and one steal in 40 minutes of work in the 145-136 loss on the road. He converted on 7-of-12 shots from the field, including 2-of-6 from 3-point range, while he went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
The No. 1 overall pick extended his streak with at least one steal to 21 games, the longest active run in the NBA. He is the third active player to have at least 20 consecutive games as a rookie with at least one steal, according to Elias Sports.

On the season, Edwards is averaging 17.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 53 games played. He leads the rookie class in scoring, is tied for the lead in 3-pointers and is third in total steals after his strong run on defense.
Overall, the defensive display by Edwards is about the only bright spot for the team on that end of the floor. The team ranks in the bottom third in several defensive categories and is desperately searching for ways to improve on a nightly basis.
Still, the recent run by Edwards is notable and shows his activity and potential on defense when he is actively engaged. Like the rest of the team, Edwards is still working to improve but he has shown some promise as of late.
