If you regularly watch the Los Angeles Lakers, you know that Anthony Davis often falls down. This time, however, it cost him his status in the game.
But it wasn’t because he got hurt, which is a constant worry for his fans due to how often he hits the hardwood. It was due to a much stranger reason that had to do with him tying his shoes.
Yeah, you read that right. Once on the floor, Davis attempted to quickly lace up his sneakers. His shoes had somehow fallen off after one of his attempted rebounds and the play resulted in a turnover in favor of the Chicago Bulls.

So while Davis was still down, Chicago’s Lonzo Ball — who was traded from the Lakers to land Davis back in 2019 — quickly rushed the ball up the court to capitalize on an advantageous 5-on-4 opportunity to attack the basket.
Davis, who was upset that the referee allowed the possession to begin while he was still working his way up, complained to the officials. Yet after just a few seconds, he was tossed from the game.
According to Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, Davis told the referee it was “BS” — which he says regularly happens during NBA action — and that is all that led to the decision.
"Typically the ref will let the guy get his shoe on. Quick inbound, AD said, 'that's BS'–which happens 15 times in every game, quick tech, ejection. I don't know what to say about that." Frank Vogel on Anthony Davis' ejection vs. Chicago. @LakersReporter pic.twitter.com/eFApf22RXe

The NBA’s rulebook explains that the use of profanity would lead to a technical foul. The language used for ejections is a bit less specific and it reads as follows:
“Cursing or blaspheming an official shall not be considered the only cause for imposing technical foul. Running tirades, continuous criticism or griping may be sufficient cause to assess a technical. Excessive misconduct shall result in ejection from the game.”
Obviously, we have no idea what Davis said to the officials. But based on how short of an interaction it was, it’s hard to imagine that it was anything that could be described as “excessive misconduct” during the exchange.
However, this was Davis’ second technical of the night, and players are tossed for two “unsportsmanlike” acts.
Davis did not speak to the media after the game so we did not hear his side of the story. It was only the second time that he has been ejected from an NBA game during his professional career.
