Anthony Davis explains why he won’t switch his jersey to No. 23

See why Anthony Davis wants to keep No. 3 despite having the chance to switch back to No. 23.

LeBron James recently made headlines for officially switching his jersey number, which created questions on if Anthony Davis would follow suit.

James wore No. 23 when he joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, which he also sported during his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

But when James switched to No. 6 recently, which is what he wore with the Miami Heat, Davis had the opportunity to change from No. 3 to No. 23 since it became available.

Davis donned No. 23 in high school, in college with Kentucky and with the New Orleans Pelicans until the Lakers traded for him.

However, despite the number being available, Davis doesn’t want to switch to it, and he explained why during a Twitch live stream, via Lakers Supply:

No Laker has the No. 3 jersey retired, so if Davis can accomplish more with the team before he calls it a career, it’s possible he could join the list of retired Lakers jerseys.

Notable Lakers who have worn No. 3 include Derek Fisher, Trevor Ariza and Devean George.
