We recently broke down how going after Washington Commanders pass rusher Chase Young was a long-shot NFL trade deadline idea that might just work for the Cincinnati Bengals.
It’s an idea that’s starting to gain some steam.
Over at Sports Illustrated, Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano identified a target each team should acquire and listed Young for the Bengals:
Young is in the last year of his rookie deal after being a much-ballyhooed pick out of Ohio State in 2020. As mentioned above, the Commanders are likely to be letting go of some players this season—the Bengals wouldn’t need to give up more than a mid-round pick, and adding Young to a group that includes Hendrickson, Sam Hubbard and B.J. Hill might pay big dividends in the quarterback-loaded AFC.
Washington didn’t pick up Young’s fifth-year option because of injuries, so he’d be a short rental for a Bengals team that needs it right now — Trey Hendrickson has already been on the injury report with a back issue, just like last year.
Adding Young to a rotation that already includes Hendrickson, DJ Reader and others for something close to a mid-round pick would be silly not to do, especially for a team with resources to spare and a championship window right now.
