Angels take Arkansas commit, right-handed pitcher Barrett Kent

Kent’s drafting marked the sixth time an Arkansas signee had been plucked for the pros.

The eighth round of the MLB Draft provided no quarter for the Arkansas baseball team.

Right-handed pitcher Barrett Kent, a signee in the Class of 2023 from Pottsboro, Texas, was taken in the eighth with pick No. 234 by the Los Angeles Angels.

Kent is rated as the No. 68 player in the country in the class and scouts rave about his stuff. The righty was tracked at 97 miles-per-hour during his senior year, as the velocity helped earn him an invitation to tryout for Team USA and the U18 team.

It’s unlikely Kent turns down the opportunity to turn professional as his slot value is just above $206,000. Players taken in the top 10 rounds of the draft rarely fail to sign.

Kent’s drafting marked the sixth player from coach Dave Van Horn’s recruiting class to be drafted. In addition, the Diamond Hogs had four other players taken, as well.
