Angela Carini, the Italian boxer who quit vs. Algeria’s Imane Khelif at Olympics, apologizes

“I was angry because my Olympics had gone up in smoke.”

Although Angela Carini has said she didn’t quit her Olympic boxing bout against Algeria’s Imane Khelif because of the unfair questions raised about the latter’s gender, there is one thing she is sorry for.

The Italian boxer didn’t shake the hand of her opponent after quitting 46 seconds into the fight.

Per the BBC, Carini told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I’m sorry for my opponent, too. If the IOC said she can fight, I respect that decision. … Actually, I want to apologise to her and everyone else. I was angry because my Olympics had gone up in smoke.”
