Anfernee McLemore signs to Pelicans G League Roster

The former NCAA Tournament standout is among the 15 players on the training camp roster.

Former Auburn basketball star Anfernee McLemore will have a chance to make his NBA debut at some point over the 2024-2025 season. The former NCAA Tournament standout is among the 15 players on the Pelicans G League squad, the Birminghman Squadron, ahead of training camp this week.

McLemore last suited up for the Tigers in the COVID-shortened 2019-2020 season. Despite receiving just four starts, McLemore played the most minutes per game (20.3) of his Tiger career. The senior finished with 6.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks before graduating and seemingly retiring from basketball. One of the key members of the “Auburn Basketball renaissance”, the forward finished his Auburn career averaging 6.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 0.7 steals per game across 130 contests.

Now 26 years old, the Warwick, GA native has the chance to become a meaningful contributor in the NBA G League. If McLemore were to play well enough to warrant a promotion to the NBA roster, he’d join All-Star Zion Williamson on a basketball court for the first time since Wiliamson and Duke took on Auburn in the 2018 Maui Invitational. For now, the former Tiger will attempt to impress the Squadron coaching staff enough in training camp to warrant a spot in the G League rotation.

The Squadron open up the 2024-2025 campaign against the Mexico City Capitanes on November 6. McLemore joins former SEC standouts E.J. Montgomery (Kentucky) and Brandon Boston (Kentucky) as former members of the conference on the 15-man training camp roster.
