The two boxers checked in for Friday’s weigh-in, resulting in noticeable changes for both.
Ruiz’s trainer, Manny Robles, wanted his boxer to slim down and get in the 250s, per ESPN.com. They had a three-month training period to make it happen compared to a one-month notice last time out. Joshua, on the other hand, sports a vastly different physique. He dropped down to 237 pounds for the rematch, almost an 11-pound swing. The 6-foot-6 boxer hasn’t been in that weight range since he fought at 236.5 pounds in a 2014 bout.
During his first two professional fights, Ruiz Jr. fought in the mid-290s, so this weight range isn’t completely foreign to him. That was, however, almost a decade ago.
