The Kansas City Chiefs finished their last day of training camp on Thursday as they get set for Saturday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters for the last time this year at Missouri Western State University. He addressed his lineup plans for this weekend’s game at Arrowhead Stadium, including more playing time for the available starters.

“As far as the play time goes, the ones will take a half,” said Reid. “Then we’ll kind of fill in after that and just kind of see how the rest of that goes for the third and fourth quarters.”

Reid was thankful for the time at training camp, which gave players and coaches time to build chemistry and prepare properly for the new season. He reflected on camp and looked forward to the start of the regular season.

“I think you’ve been able to see the growth,” Reid explained. “We’ve added a ton into the last few days up here, and the guys have digested it and been able to spit it back and retain it. That’s a positive, and then maybe most of all is getting yourself into football shape and ramping up to your first game against the Ravens. We still have a couple of weeks ahead of us here before all that takes place, but we’ll keep working on it. So we’re not ready yet but we’ll keep working and get ourselves sharpened up a little bit to play.”

The Chiefs will look to stay injury-free during Saturday’s matchup as the rookies get their first opportunity in front of the Kansas City crowd.
