The Cincinnati Bengals won’t be trading Andy Dalton to the Chicago Bears.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears instead elected to trade for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles in exchange for a compensatory fourth-round pick.
The Bengals and Bears reportedly talked about a Dalton trade around the combine and then resumed talks Monday ahead of free agency.
Instead, the Bears opted for a hefty Foles salary after the veteran lost his job in Jacksonville to late-round rookie Gardner Minshew.
Cincinnati might’ve wanted more for one non-guaranteed year of Dalton. Instead, they’ll get nothing from the Bears and perhaps look to quarterback-needy teams like the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots as potential trade partners.
With Tom Brady leaving New England, the Patriots still seem like the best trade partner for Dalton.
