After more than a decade of missing the playoffs and disappointing seasons, everything changed for the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. Sean McVay was hired, Andrew Whitworth and Robert Woods were signed, Cooper Kupp and John Johnson were drafted, resulting in the Rams making the playoffs after 12 straight years of coming up short.
While each of those moves had a major impact on the team, Whitworth’s signing was undoubtedly one of the best decisions made by the Rams in the last decade. Despite being 35 years old, Whitworth continued to prove he was one of the best left tackles in football by earning an All-Pro selection in 2017.
He had his doubters four years ago when he signed with the Rams, though, including the Bengals. They chose not to bring him back, thinking his career was coming to an end. The Rams capitalized on that mistake and have been benefiting ever since.
Late Wednesday night, Whitworth reflected on his decision to sign with the Rams four years ago with a wisdom-filled Instagram post. He shared a message for free agents facing a similar decision to sign with one team or another, telling them no one else is in control of their next steps.
