There’s never been any question about Andrew Whitworth’s leadership in the Rams’ locker room, and you need not look any further than his award nominations this year. After already being selected as the Rams’ nominee for the Salute To Service Award, the team has also nominated him for the coveted Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
The news was announced on Thursday as all 32 teams selected their nominee for the honor. This is the third straight year the Rams have nominated Whitworth, which is remarkable considering this is only his fourth year on the team.
The award is given to the player who best exemplifies a community leader off the field, and also shows excellence on the field. Whitworth certainly checks both boxes, not only playing at a very high level at the age of 38, but also doing important work in the community.
From the moment Whit joined the Rams in 2017, he has embraced the city of Los Angeles and given his time, donations + heart to Angelenos in need.

Just this week, the Rams announced he and his wife donated $50,000 to “The Serving Spoon,” a popular small business in the Inglewood community. Whitworth was also at the forefront of the Rams’ player-pooled donation of $750,000 to local social justice nonprofits, donating the money to 25 different organizations.
The winner of this prestigious award will be announced at the NFL Honors show, which will be held the week before the Super Bowl. He will receive a $250,000 donation to the charity of his choice, as well as a trophy and jersey patch to be worn during games.
