Andrew Whitworth ahead of schedule, will test knee on field next week

Andrew Whitworth’s knee rehab seems to be going better than expected.

Andrew Whitworth has been sidelined since Week 10 when he injured his MCL and PCL against the Seahawks, landing him on injured reserve. Sean McVay said it’s not a season-ending injury, but he wouldn’t say exactly when Whitworth would return.

There was initial hope that he’d be back at the end of the season and for a potential playoff run in January, which seems even more likely now. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported before Thursday night’s Rams-Patriots game that Whitworth is “way ahead of schedule.”

Whitworth told Glazer that he’s off the trainer’s table and will test his knee on the field next week, which is a huge step.

Whitworth shared a video this week of himself doing footwork step-up drills in the weight room, which was impressive in its own right. This latest news from Glazer is even more encouraging, though.

Joe Noteboom has done well at left tackle in Whitworth’s place, but the Rams would love to have their stud veteran back for January football.

As long as there are no setbacks, that seems very possible.
