As far as steals in the NFL draft go, former Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. could be the biggest one of the 2022 class.
For many, Booth was heading into the 2022 NFL draft as a locked and loaded first-round pick. When it comes to talent, Booth fit the bill of a first-rounder, but things didn’t turn out that way.
Falling out of the first round, Booth was selected No.42 overall in the second round by the Minnesota Vikings. It seems as if a pre-draft injury and health concerns led to this fall down the draft board.
A team that was likely considering Booth in the first round, the Minnesota Vikings may have gotten the steal of the 2nd round and possibly the entire draft.
Here’s what Luke Easterling over at Draft Wire had to say about Andrew Booth Jr.:
Another corner show could have easily gone in the first round, Booth might be the most pro-ready prospect in this year’s loaded class at the position. An injury kept him out of predraft workouts, and likely contributed to his tumble down the draft board, but the Vikings were wise to stop his fall.
Booth was one of the nation’s best corners last year, especially in press-man situations, and that should continue at the next level. If he’s able to return to full strength, Minnesota could end up with one of the biggest bargains of the entire draft, with a shutdown corner who landed outside the top 40 selections.
The possibility of a lockdown corner in the second round of the NFL draft? I’m sure the Vikings are happy with their selection. Only time will tell if Booth can prove to be the steal we believe he is.
