Former Vol Andre Lipcius will make his Major League Baseball debut Friday for Detroit.
Lipcius joins Detroit from the Toledo Mud Hens, a Triple-A affiliate of the Tigers.
The White Sox will host Detroit on Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois. First pitch between the Tigers and White Sox is slated for 8:10 p.m. EDT.
The former Vol was a third-round selection by Detroit in the 2019 MLB draft (No. 83 overall).
Lipcius played shortstop and third base at Tennessee from 2017-19.
He started 168 contests for the Vols and was a member of the SEC’s All-Freshman team in 2017.
Lipcius will become the third Tennessee player of the Tony Vitello era to debut in Major League Baseball, joining Garrett Crochet (2020) and Ben Joyce (2023). Vitello has served as the Vols’ head coach since 2018.
