Andre Drummond continues to etch name next to great Sixers big men

Newcomer Andre Drummond continues to etch his name next to the great big men of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Philadelphia 76ers big man Andre Drummond has proven a pretty solid pickup to begin the 2021-22 season. Philadelphia signed the former two-time All-Star to be a backup big man to Joel Embiid, and he has made a significant impact.

Drummond is averaging 11.1 rebounds and has played a larger than expected role with Embiid spending extended time in the league’s health and safety protocol. While the Sixers have not had many wins with Embiid out, they have received good production from Drummond.

In Monday’s impressive win over the Sacramento Kings, Drummond had another big rebounding performance. He pulled down 23 boards. He already has three games with 20-plus rebounds this season.

Over the last 40 years, the only Sixers player to pull down 20-plus rebounds at least three times in a single season are Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, Embiid and Drummond. Not bad for a guy who is here on a veteran’s minimum deal.

The Sixers will benefit greatly from Drummond as they continue to get healthy. While Embiid will do his thing out on the floor to start games, Drummond will be able to give him a serious rest when the time calls for it and that should be very helpful for the entirety of the season.
