It appears the issues Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo have with each other have reached the “on sight” level of enmity.
After trading insults and accusations with each other earlier this week on Twitter, the two wrestlers had their first chance to be in the same room at the same time at AEW Dynamite on Wednesday night in Washington D.C.
It did not go well.
TMZ was one of the first outlets to report that Guevara and Andrade got into a backstage altercation, which was quickly confirmed by Fightful Select while Dynamite was underway. While the first reports implied both men were sent home, it quickly became apparent that Guevara was still on the card, appearing in a promo with the Jericho Appreciation Society and being promoted for the main event.
Both outlets also cut off the obvious question from many wrestling fans by reporting that all indications were that the situation was not a work.
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer summed up a common reaction to the news from fans online, expressing incredulousness that Guevara and Andrade were allowed to interact so easily.
How does this happen in AEW? Everyone paying attention should have known to keep Sammy & Andrade apart.

Andrade, who is slated to face 10 of the Dark Order on Rampage Friday, tweeted something later that certainly seemed to be a reference to what had just gone down.

There’s almost certainly more that will come out about this particular incident, but it’s the latest sign that whatever improvements have taken place in the AEW locker room since the All Out brawl haven’t fixed everything that’s ailing the promotion. The eyes of the wrestling world will be on AEW continuously until things settle down for an extended period of time, and not for a reason the company would prefer.
